Audio: the right volume
Social media apps play videos at about the same loudness. A video that is too quiet sounds weak next to others in the feed, and a very loud one sounds harsh.
In the Audio step we measure your video's loudness and suggest a change:
- Your video is a bit quiet: we suggest making it a few dB louder.
- Your video is very loud: we suggest making it quieter.
- The volume is fine: no change is needed.
The suggested change is set on the slider. Play the video to compare the sound before and after, move the slider if you like, and click Use to apply the change. Keep as it is leaves the volume unchanged. The measured value is shown in LUFS, the standard unit for loudness.
If the video has no sound, the step says so and you can continue.
Background noise
Below the volume, choose how much background noise to remove:
| Level | What it does |
|---|---|
| Off | The sound stays as it is. |
| Light | Lowers steady noise such as hiss, hum and fans. Safe for most videos. |
| Strong | Keeps only the voice: removes traffic, wind and room noise. |
Click Before and After to hear 12 seconds of your video with and without the noise removal, starting where you begin to speak. Compare them before you continue.
Strong also removes background music and other sounds that are not speech. If your video has music you want to keep, use Light or Off.
The noise is removed before the volume is changed, so making the video louder does not make the noise louder.
